Dr. Jorge I. Leiva is a native from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He attended college and Medical School in his hometown and continues to travel back to his hometown where his family resides. Having two cardiologists in his family, his father and his brother, he has always been in close contact with the medical field. In 1993, he decided to pursue a General Surgery training in the United States and successfully completed his residency in 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital.
From 1999 to June of 2002 he practiced General Surgery in his hometown. His practice included a teaching hospital, private practice and the beginning of the Bariatric Surgery with the Lap Band. In July of 2002 he was invited to comeback to Houston to join Dr. J.K. Raman and his good friend and fellow resident from St. Joseph S. Manny Ayyar in Northwest Houston Surgical Association. Together they have built a busy practice which serves the major hospitals of Northwest Houston. They currently have offices in Memorial Northwest, Memorial City, Methodist Willowbrook and North Cypress Medical Center
Dr. Leiva is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, the Mexican Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has a special interest in Advanced Laparoscopy, including laparoscopic repair of all types of hernias, gallbladder disease, treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux and Laparoscopic Colon Surgery.
Within the last 3 years his Breast practice has grown exponentially with the application of minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the breast, including office based procedures which spare the patient from unnecessary trips to the operating room.
Dr. Leiva is fluent in Spanish and is always happy to care for patients who require a friendly person to take them through their illnesses with the comfort of communication in their native language. He is happily married and the father of four children with whom he spends all the free time that he gets. He enjoys traveling with his family bicycle riding, swimming and playing racquet sports.
